The first of our Townsend family in America appears to be Thomas Townsend (1732-1796) who purchased land in 1767 in Pittsylvania County in what is now North Carolina. He is interesting because he fought for the British in the Revolutionary War. Robert Ewing is also on this branch and was well regarded as a military man who fought on the American side in the Revolutionary War.

Also on this branch are Orndoffs whose home is still standing on the Antietam Battlefield. They lived there long before the Civil War. Their home now serves as the park ranger information center. Also it is possible that Margaret Scott, the last witch who was convicted of witchcraft and hung and burned in New England in 1662, is part of the this branch.

Our Townsend branch eventually settled in Logan County, Kentucky marrying and adding the Ewings, Boyds, Davidsons, McLeans, Bakers, Barkers, Offutts and more to that branch.
