Ewing Family

Robert Ewing (1718 – 1787) is my 4^th great grandfather. He married Mary Baker (1725 – 1790). They had at least 12 children. Their son Robert (1760 – 1832) was my 3^rd great grandfather. He married Mary Jane McLean (1769 – 1847). They had at least 8 children. Their daughter Elizabeth Davidson Ewing (1788 – 1867) was my 2^nd great grandmother and she married Thomas Jefferson Townsend (1780 – 1851) joining the Ewing and Townsend branches of our family tree.

Robert (1760 – 1832) was one of the signers of the petition of the Peaks of Otter Presbyterian Church in May 1774. He moved to Davidson County, TN, then NC in 1784; he was a member of the NC Legislature from Davidson County, 1787 - 1789 and was a member of the NC Convention of 1789 for adoption of the United States Constitution. Robert moved to Logan County Kentucky in 1792. He served as a member of the Kentucky State Senate from 1806 to 1818 and as president of the senate in 1818.

His tombstone reads: In Memory of General Robert Ewing, a soldier of the Revolution, who departed this life 14th day July, 1832 in the 73rd year of his age. He was born in Virginia in 1760, removed to West Tennessee in 1781, from whence he was elected and served two sessions in the North Carolina Legislature. Was married to Jane McLean on the 4th of July 1787, removed to Logan County Kentucky, in 1792; was elected to the Legislature of Kentucky in 1797 and served 21 years in succession, sixteen in the Senate and the last two as its president. He was the Oracle of his family, and among his neighbors emphatically a peacemaker."

Also provided below is a book about the Ewing Clan and another about Margaret Davidson Ewing who was married to Rev. Finis Ewing. They would be my 4^th great aunt and uncle. Finis settled near the Old Red River Meeting House in Logan County, KY and was active in the Revival of 1800 and was one of the founding fathers of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Also below is a photo of Sophronia Ewing who is my 3^rd great aunt, just because it is an interesting name and an interesting picture.
