Morris Love Mitchell (1908 – 1974)
Morris was born at Watson, Loudoun County, VA. He was one
of ten children born to John William Mitchell (1868 – 1958) and Minnie Love
Mitchell (1876 – 1946). He attended
public schools at Aldie through 12th grade.
In his youth, he was a keen basketball player. He attended two years at Southern Brothers
Business College in Washington, graduating with an associate degree in
1928. He worked at his father's general
store in Watson, Virginia and then for C.D. Kenney Wholesale Grocers, as a
salesman in the Washington D.C. area. As
a young married man, he played baseball with a team on the grounds of the
Washington Monument. He was an involved
parent. He helped his children with
their daily newspaper routes. He
volunteered with the Boy Scouts. He volunteered
for local elections. He was on the board
of governors for the Lyon Park Citizens association. He volunteered his time to maintain the park
at the community center.
