Arthur Leon Saulmon (1881 - 1921) and Eva Lee McDonald Saulmon (1883 – 1934)

Eva was born in Gibson County, Indiana. She was one of four children of Leroy McDonald (1853 – 1916) and Martha Amelia Meadows (1853 – 1947).

Mrs. Eva Saulmon, 51, widow of the late Arthur Saulmon of Wadesville, died Wednesday night shortly before 10 o'clock at her home in Wadesville after a lingering illness. Death was due to complication of diseases, and she had been bedfast during the past six months. Mrs. Saulmon was a woman of strong personality, as was held in general esteem and affection in the community. She was a member of the Poseyville Chapter of the O. E. S.

Mrs. Saulmon - nee Eva McDonald was born October 18, 1883 in Cynthiana, and married Dr. Saulmon November 6, 1906. They moved to Wadesville sixteen years ago, where they had since resided. Dr. Saulmon, a veterinary and Center township trustee, died five years ago.

Funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the Baptist church in Wadesville, charge of the Rev. B. W. Barnes of Owensville. Interment will be made in Laurel Hill cemetery.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Tye Heckman, Mrs. Charles Hoskinson of Chicago, Katherine and Mary Lee; a son, Ernest, the mother Mrs. Martha McDonald of Cynthiana, a sister, Mrs. Henry Wilkie of Evansville and a brother, Palmer McDonald of Fresno, Cal.

Arthur was born in Gibson County, Indiana. He was the oldest of the six children of James Cavert William Saulmon (1859 – 19321) and Martha Louise Van Wagner (1861 – 1929). Family lore is that as a young person, Arthur was working on a farm and trying to get control of a runaway horse, the horse kicked him and he suffered a head injury. The result was that he became unable to work in the sun and carry out his farm duties. We believe that Dave Alcorn, who owned the farm, took Arthur under his wing and helped him go to Veterinary school. After Arthur graduated, he and his wife Eva settled in Wadesville and Arthur practiced veterinary medicine from a building next to the house. He was a much respected member of the community. He was elected as the only republican trustee of the Wadesville City Counsel. We also believe, without any pride, it is possible that Arthur was a member of the Klan. His son Ernie shared a memory of his father coming home one night smelling of the torches the Klan carried. Arthur died of a brain tumor and it was believed it was a result of that injury to his head as a young person. After Authur’s death, a document mailed to his wife, Eva Lee Saulmon, lists Arthur's property as a 1927 Chevrolet Sedan valued at $125. a 1/2 ton truck valued at $20, a Guerensy Milch Cow valued at $50 and Veterinarian Supplies valued at $50. And it listed 40 Debtors who owed $250.10.
